Podgorica

Podgorica is the main crossroads of roads in Montenegro. Its convenient position on the mouth of the Ribnica River in Morača in Zetsko-Bjelopavlića plain. The city is close to winter centers in the north of the country and summer resorts in the Adriatic Sea. Podgorica is located near the remains of the Roman town of Dokleje. In the Middle Ages, there was a settlement called Ribnica, and under this name the city was first mentioned in 1326. Since 1878 Podgorica has been part of the Principality of Montenegro. Since 1946, it has been the administrative headquarters of Montenegro, and during the SFRY Podgorica, Titograd was called.
